Campaign Fund for Theatre in Gaza

The Al Mishal Cultural Centre in Gaza was destroyed by an Israeli airstrike on the 9th August 2018.

Theatre practitioners in the UK launched a campaign to replace/rebuild the centre.  Initially the collection point was Az Theatre but we broadened out the base of the appeal and have ‘internationalised’ our effort by making contact with activists in New York and Ramallah, and by approaching other organisations that might help a campaign of this sort.

Of course the basis of our work is the creative community in Gaza that we have been in contact with through our work with Theatre for Everybody in our Gaza Drama Long Term project. This is a devastating loss for the cultural and artistic scene in Gaza. (Read more.) The five storey building housed many theatre productions and cultural activities.  It was the venue of choice for theatre companies in Gaza, including our partners, Theatre for Everybody and also the Ashtar Gaza Youth Theatre.

We have now raised £5500 and we are suspending our fundraising.  The 50+ people who have contributed are the seed-sowers. Now we are building a more international platform and forming a committee of dedicated people rooted in Gaza to create a development strategy. Any help and suggestions, please contact Az!
